The Hourglass Sessions by Prose City are intimate gatherings where we craft prose and poetry, share perspectives and motivation, and build community in a relaxed environment. Our sessions always aim to provide a welcoming space for writers of all backgrounds and experience levels to explore, create, and grow together.
Like most of our events, we intentionally keep these small — aiming for 6 to 8 people — and word of mouth only.
The format varies within a framework of guided writing prompts, thoughtful discussion, and collaborative exploration—with plenty of time for writing. Whether you’re penning your first story, refining a poem you’ve been sitting with, or just fine-tuning your craft in general, you’ll be among kindred spirits.
We’ll provide suggested prompts and gently guided exercises to inspire our writing. Like our signature hourglasses shown below, creativity and expression come in many hues and in their own time, so there is never any pressure to strictly adhere to the prompts. The aim is for these to inspire and encourage an enjoyable writing experience, so whatever that looks like for you is welcome.
All you need is something to write with, something to write on, as well as your curiosity and openness to discover where your words might lead.
